War Posters for the Global War on Terror addresses the language of the War on Terror as it has been constructed since the events of 9/11.  In light of these events, American language regarding the conflict became polarized in a rhetoric of ‘us and them.’  The poster series uses appropriated World War Two ‘war poster’ imagery from both Allied and Axis nations using their universal familiarity as state propaganda.  The text inserted are mostly popular phrases and concepts taken from American and British press conferences and speeches relating to the War on Terror from 2001 to 2007.  In the series I am trying to employ the formal structure and aesthetic of the posters for their propagandistic agenda, but at the same time be confronted with the familiar terminology of the War on Terror, as utilized by governments and media.  The juxtaposition of image and text is intended to make the viewer question their assumptions relating to the level of their acceptance of the war’s terminology and driving concepts.
